Breast Ultrasound

What is breast ultrasound?

A breast ultrasound is a non-invasive procedure that involves exposing the breast to sound wave technology to produce images of inside the breast tissue. This can show whether a lump is solid or filled with fluid.

What to Expect

While lying on the exam table, the technologist or radiologist will apply some warm water-based gel on your skin and then place the transducer firmly against your body, moving it back and forth over the area of interest until the desired images are captured. There is usually no discomfort or pain from pressure as the transducer is pressed against the area being examined.  After a breast ultrasound, you should be able to resume your normal activities immediately.

Patient Preparation

For your convenience, please wear a two-piece outfit. Do not use deodorant, powder, or perfume under the arm or breast area.
